James Chance used to STALK James Brown
Obviously James Brown is a huge influence on your work. Did you ever meet him?
JC: No, I never did meet him. I went to a few of his shows around 1980. I went to one that was at a night-club in Brooklyn and after the show I waited around outside his dressing room for a long time to try to talk to him, but he just wasn't opening the door, so I finally gave up and went home!

Yma Sumac, Peru OR Amy Camus, Brooklyn ?
Cumbe Maita from the album Inca Taqui back in 1953.
Cumbe Maita is ONLY on 3 octaves. Only. Actually, Yma Sumac's vocal range was close to 5 octaves.

Julian Casablancas à propos des futurs projets des Strokes :
It’s been a decade since the band’s debut. Has your perspective on the band changed?
It’s so hard. It’s like asking how your perception of yourself has changed. It’s hard to judge it objectively. I’m not sure if it matters. My personal feeling is that the band is cool and will always play shows and do records. I do feel like in the early days, I was crazy involved on all levels. When I do the solo stuff now, even though it sounds nothing like the Strokes, it’s more of a continuation. I wanted things to sound like that, have short songs and messed up vocals. Now, I’m doing different stuff and it’s same level of working on the drumbeats and bass lines. I didn’t do the record I totally wanted to. Now that I did it, I think I could do a way better one. Everyone might think that. I feel excited about the future. I think the Strokes will continue but it will be different for me. I’ll be writing music and lyrics and I’ll be music director. Other people will be writing songs and coming up other ideas. I’ll save all the stuff I want to do for myself. I think that part of me feels like I have to prove myself. I haven’t toured this record so it will be fun to play it for people and see what they think.

A présent, Mr Casablancas gardera jalousement TOUTES ses idées pour lui, TOUT ce qui lui tient à coeur sera réservé à ses projets non-Strokes. Alala ça sent le sapin pour les Strokes. Tant pis ! [Petite larme, quand même. Enfin elle est vraiment petite la larme.]
P.S. : Little Girl by Danger Mouse and Sparkle Horse. The song features J. Casablancas' vocals.
